I am gradually sorting out my LWB 1.8 marina based roadster to get it on the road after 20 years on SORN. I am now looking at the brakes. The rears are fine but the front calipers were seized up on both sides. After a lot of work yesterday I managed to extract the brake pads and removed the brake calipers. All 4 pistons were seized solid. So after all that time standing and corroding, I'm not going to take any chances and aim to replace them. The question is, in 2026, which is the best supplier to turn to? Bigg Red has been mentioned in the past, but after looking at their website and ebay store, they only seem to offer repair kits, not full sets of calipers?
On Ebay there is a company offering a pair of refurbed calipers for £220 exchange (with free delivery) called SSL and finally there are the Grumpy Marina type calipers offered by ESM Morris Minor spares for £226.80 inc VAT, but it will involve replacing the short brake pipe as the connection is in a different location on the caliper than the normal one.
Anyone got any ideas as to which type is going to be best? Or is there another source that I'm not aware of or perhaps the Marlin Owners Club has a deal with a suitable supplier for a good price?
Any help gratefully received.
