    Brake pipe flaring.

I am starting to replace all my brake pipes before finally fitting the body panels on my roadster.
I bought a Sealey flaring kit from flea bay for £15 and tested it, was not impressed with the flare so found a better tool for £35 and what a difference.
Guess which one is being sent back. Good reminder not to buy too cheap.

    Hiya

Yep I ended up buying a better set.

Good to see you are making progress.

      Ha slowly getting somewhere Adrian,
It seems every time I plan to spend time on it something else crops up.
Saturday for instance, lovely day but I spent the day fixing a flush on the toilet :-(
I can’t believe the difference between these flaring kits, it’s dangerous to use them and I must say the better one is far easier to use too.
      Cheers and keep safe, Martin.

I am also looking for a better brake flare tool. Where did you get your second compact one? There are several places that supply ones that look the same as yours, but I would be reassuring to get the exact one that you bought as it produced such a good result. Peter.

          Hi Peter,
I bought this one from Amazon, it is easy to use and does a good job. I am making slow progress as I’m still having to go to work and cover for others on furlough. I will get there in the end.

Hi Martin. Thats great thanks. It makes a very neat and symmetrical flare. Will also avoid the nasty clamp marks around the pipe that I get with mine. Peter.

              Re: Brake pipe flaring.

Whilst spending an hour or so working on the front brake pipes this evening I just noticed the trunion rubbers and bushes are perished and split.
Beggar it another job to strip down to replace, these were new and never been on the road. Grrr.
Can I get just the rubbers and bushes or a case of buying both trunions again.

You may be able to find a suitable track rod end universal gaiter

                  Thanks Ben,
Will have a measure up. The bushes On both sides have perished as well so will need to source a set of those.
                  Cheers, Martin

Hi Martin. Ball joint boots will probably have too small a hole. The Triumph TR sports cars had similar fulcrum lower steering swivel. Have a look at Triumph TR4 seals below. Peter.

Thanks, I have been looking at some that are 19mm one side and 28mm the other, just need to measure up when I get out there this evening.
                      Cheers, Martin.

Ordered a couple of these hopefully they will fit.

For the bushes I have some poly bar so thought I’d try turning them, done one and its a nice tight fit on an old trunion that I have spare.
